By the end of the class, my students are expected to: · master the pronunciation and meaning of new words and different types of films. · generalize the main idea and fin details by identifying the topic and context through reading. · consolidate the pragmatic knowledge of ‘giving suggestions’ through attention to discourse expression and use it in a real context in oral practice. · present proper reasons for preferring or declining a propose in the topic of choosing film. Teaching focuses: · Guiding students to effectively know the types of films and get the gist and detailed information through skimming and scanning and complete the communicative tasks the pragmatic knowledge of giving suggestions. Learning difficulties: · Students may have difficulty in expressing the reasons why they like or dislike specific films. Teaching Procedure: Stage Learning Activities Purposes Lead-in 1.Watch a video clip. To raise students’ interest and elicit the topic. Pre-reading 1. Learn different types of films. 2. Look at the picture and predict what they will read. To guide students to know the types of films and enhance their capacity of predicting. While-reading 1. Skim the text and check their prediction. To guide students to understand the gist and details and identify the language functions of giving suggestions. 2. Scan the text and find out the names of films. 3.Scan the text and find out the reasons. 4.Read and find out how they give suggestions. Post-reading 1.Talk about whether they like the films and give reasons. 2.Group work: Discuss and choose a film which all your group members would like to see.
