Part I Analysis of teaching material According to the new curriculum standards and core competencies: First, let’s start with the teaching material. According to new curriculum standards and the activity based approach to English learning, the text is analyzed from three aspects. They are what, why, and how? 【What】 The topic of this whole unit is “asking and giving directions”, which mainly focuses on learning how to use phrases of prepositions to talk about going to places. The main content of this lesson is grasping the verbs and phrases of prepositions, mastering the names of different places and asking about directions, and being able to answer accordingly. 【Why】 The intention of this lesson is to teach students how to talk about directions by learning vocabulary and dialogues as well as listening. Through the study of this lesson, students will develop the ability to ask for directions to different places and know about nearby places by using “Is there a/an ....near here?” 【How】 The genre of this lesson is dialogue, and its structure is presented through asking about ways to get to different places. The language accurately focuses on expressions of directions.
