Chengdu is famous for (因…而出名)its agriculture(农业) and known as “the land of plenty”. However(然而), this wasn’t always the case. In ancient times(在古代), the region experienced(v.经历) regular flooding(n.洪水). Around 256 BC, a local official (一个当地的官员)named Li Bing decided to (决定做某事)try to solve the problem(试着解决问题). Instead of (而不是)building dams(大坝), he used local geographical features (当地的农业特征)and succeeded in (成功做某事)building an environmentally friendly irrigation system(环境友好型灌溉系统)—Dujiangyan. Since then(自从那是), Dujiangyan has helped keep the region fertile and productive. (肥沃,多产)
Dujiangyan is a powerful example of how humans can work with nature. In doing so, it becomes possible not just to prevent natural disasters but also to benefit people.
