A
Are you interested in music? Can you play any instruments? Could you imagine playing one instrument made of ice?
Tim Linhart is an ice sculptor (雕刻家). He set up a small club of ice instruments. The performances have brought people happiness for more than 20 years. The club is popular with people at different ages.
The name of Linhart's club is Ice Music. The instruments are very fragile (脆弱的).Even the warmth of a musician's breath can cause the sound to change, so it's necessary to retune(调整)the instruments between two pieces of music. The musicians keep available instruments on hand in case one breaks. They usually repair the instruments with just a bit of water.
Most performances by Ice Music take place in a special concert hall in northern Sweden. The hall can hold at most 200 people and the temperature inside is about -5°C. Listeners should wear thick clothes. Body temperature and breathing can break the instruments up so Linhart designed the hall with two ice houses. There is a hole at the top, which let the heat of breaths and bodies out, so that the inside temperature stays the same all the time.
Because the concert hall melts in the warm season, people rebuild it every winter. Ice Music concerts also take place in other places around the world. Linhart built an 80-foot-high hall in the Italian Alps not long ago. When winter ends, Linhart tries to store some of the instruments for the next year's performances.
