Aims Today Credit enquiry is to get information concerning the financial and credit standing, reputation, and business methods of other firms. When doing business with a foreign customer for the first time, it is of great significance to obtain all the related information concerning its credit status. It is a common practice for firms engaged in foreign trade to check out their possible new partners so as to reduce risks and financial losses. There are many channels through which the company can obtain such information, such as banks, chambers of commerce, business houses of the same or similar trade, or enquiry agencies. In addition, in international business, an exporter may ask his new customer to give the name of his bank or the name of other firm with which the customer has previously dealt as a reference. Background Information The information obtained from a bank or from a chamber of commerce is generally most objective and reliable. Besides, many companies prefer to look to the professional enquiry agencies for the information they require, because enquiry agencies can provide you with a comparatively reliable and detailed credit report. In order to ensure the reliability of information and safety of the business, the company may make credit enquiry through several channels at the same time.
