Warm-up
When conducting business negotiations, the buyer and the seller shall reach an agreement on the following issues: time of shipment, port of shipment, port of destination, shipping type and shipping documents, etc., and shall stipulate these issues in the contract.
Shipment is the process of goods being delivered by the exporter to the importer according to the stipulations of the contract. Major modes of international transportation include ocean transportation, rail transportation, air transportation, container transportation and international multi-modal transportation.

Warm-up
On FOB, CIF, CFR prices, the seller loads the goods on the ship according to the provisions stipulated in the contract, and then get the B/L. This procedure is called “voucher”. The date of the B/L being signed is also the date of delivery. Thus “shipment” usually equals to “delivery” on these occasions.
Shipping documents must conform to the terms of the L/C. Shipping documents include bill of lading, commercial invoice, insurance policy, certificates of inspection, weight invoice, and packing list. Bill of lading can be classified into many types, including on board B/L, clean B/L, unclean B/L, straight B/L, order B/L, direct B/L, through B/L, etc.
