I Introduction
Shipment, one of the indispensable terms of sales contract, signifies the seller’s fulfillment of the obligation to make delivery of the goods.
Basically, shipment is effected by means of road or railway, sea or air, inland waterway or multi-mode transport, etc. Despite the diversified means of transportation, ocean transportation is still a mode which is most widely used in international trade. In practice, shipment involves such procedures as clearing the goods through the customs, booking shipping space or chartering a ship, completing shipping documents, dispatching shipping advice.
There are three parties involved in the movement of goods: the consignor or the shipper (who sends goods), the carrier (who carries the goods), and the consignee (who receives the goods at the destination).
I Introduction
Before shipment, the importers generally send shipping instructions to the exporters, informing them of packing, marks, mode of transportation, etc. On the other hand, the exporters usually send shipping advice to the importers immediately after the goods are loaded on the board of the steamer, advising them of the shipment, especially under FOB terms.
The structure of shipping instruction:
1) Referring to the previous letters;
2) Give instruction and reasons;
3) Hope the acceptance by the seller.
The structure of shipping advice:
1) Inform the buyer of the completion of the shipment;
2) Enclose the relevant documents;
