Unit 4 When HAMLET meets PEKING OPERA教学设计
1. Teaching aims
(1) To help students get the main idea of this passage and some detailed information through reading.
(2) To help students understand the features of Peking Opera and the changes of the author’s emotion, learn and master the language related to Peking Opera.
(3) To help students correctly distinguish the cultural differences between east and west and do our best to spread excellent Chinese culture.
2. Important points of teaching
(1) Students can feel the changes of author’s emotions in varying periods when seeing Peking Opera, master language related to Peking Opera and put it into use.
(2) Students can correctly distinguish the cultural differences between east and west, build cultural confidence, inherit and spread Chinese traditional culture.
3. Difficult points of teaching
(1) How to lead students to apply the language used to describe performance of Peking Opera to writing and conversations.
(2) How to help students build cultural confidence, inherit and spread Chinese traditional culture.

5. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
Teacher first shows a video of an opera and asks what the video is about. Students watch the video and answer.
Teacher introduces Hamlet in brief and show pictures about Peking Opera and says, “We are not familiar with operas, but we know Peking Opera. So what will happen when Hamlet meets Peking Opera?”
【设计意图】视频导入吸引学生的注意力,激发学生的学习兴趣。通过观看视频学生对歌剧有一定的认识,再结合京剧的特点,学生能够更好地体会作者的情境,感受课文题目的意义,在阅读时可以身临其境。
Step 2 Fast reading
Teacher asks students to read quickly and get the main idea and writing purpose. Ask students to pay attention to the structure. Students read the passage and share the answers.
(1) The main ideas of the passage is “Peking Opera uses different forms to convey the same theme of Hamlet.”
(2) The author writes the passage to share the unique experience of seeing a Peking Opera version of Hamlet.
