Unit 3 Enquiry
To make an enquiry is usually the first step in business negotiations. An enquiry is usually made by the importer, seeking the supply of products, services or information. There are general enquiries and specific enquiries.
In a general enquiry, the inquirer should state clearly all the information he needs—general information, a catalogue, or price list, a sample or sample books, etc.
In a specific enquiry, the inquirer should point out what commodities he wants. He may ask for a catalogue, a price list, samples, etc., or ask for a quotation or an offer.
The exporter usually makes an offer by fax or E-mail immediately he receives a specific inquiry. All necessary terms and conditions should be given in the offer.
