Learning to write the best script
Calligraphy, or shufa, is the art of handwriting. I have always wanted to be a calligrapher. Ever since I turned 7, my mother has had me take calligraphy classes. Unlike holding a pen, I had to learn how to hold a brush. I gripped
(紧握) it close to the bristles(刷毛)as my teacher required. But the characters(汉字) I wrote were ugly at first. It made me lose confidence in myself. But my mother said,“Calligraphy can improve your endurance(耐力). You need to sit down and write carefully.”
With her advice(建议)in mind, I practice calligraphy for about two or three hours each week. Sitting at my desk for hours, I try my best to stay focused(集中注意力的). After practicing for five years, my work won first prize(第一名)at a national calligraphy competition for teenagers.
Now I can write five kinds of script, including cursive script(草书). I will keep writing and learning how to improve my skills.

Have you ever read martial arts novels (武侠小说)? Even if you haven't,you've probably watched films or TV shows, or played video games that feature(以...为特征的) martial arts.
Martial arts novels are a big part of Chinese pop culture. Almost everyone in China knows the names of some characters (角色) or martial arts moves (武功招式) from these books. These books show a fantasy(幻想的)world called jianghu. Xia, or fighting heroes(英雄), live in jianghu. They do martial arts and fight for honor (荣誉).
