Unit 5 Lesson 13 Changes in Our Town（第一课时） Lesson Focus • Adjectives, too / either • Talking about where you were yesterday • Past tense of be · Words with the sounds /ɪə/ and /eə/ Warm-up Exercise 1 Purpose: to help students know adjectives · Direct students to the photo. Say "Look at the photo. What is it?" Elicit or provide It's a big city. Ask "What can you see?" Elicit or provide I can see mountains in the back, highways, lots of buildings and some trees. Say "Does this look like your town?" Elicit an appropriate response. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step. · Write clean on the board. Ask "Is your room clean?" Elicit an appropriate response. Then draw a circle with a slash over clean to indicate not clean or dirty. Ask "What is the opposite of clean? What word means not clean?" Elicit or provide dirty and write clean≠dirty, explaining they are opposite pairs. Direct students to the Key Words. Read them aloud, having students repeat them after you. Say "Put them in opposite pairs". Monitor, offering assistance as needed. If students need support, have them work in pairs. · Say "Now listen and check" Play the recording, more than once if necessary, for students to check their answers. · Go over the answers, having individual students say the pair of opposites aloud. Check students pronunciation of the Key Words. Explain that the opposite pair close / far can be used to express distance, as in The shop is close / far. OR to express relationships between people, as in I am very close to / far from my sister. This expresses the idea of having a close relationship or not having one with someone. Note that we use the prepositions to with close and from with far. As well, point out that to be close to someone is more commonly used than to be far from someone.
