Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know food
· Direct students to the photos. Ask "Do you like this food?" Elicit an appropriate response. Ask if they know the names of the food in the photos. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the Key Words. Say "Which Key Words can you see in the photos? Label the pictures". If students need support, have them work in pairs. You can also ask "Which Key Words can you see on page 35?" Students should identify salt, rice and noodles. You may also use the Picture Dictionary on page 115, Food and Drink, to teach the Key Words.

Answers

Point to each picture or drawing and say the Key Word, having students repeat after you. To confirm under-standing, point to the picture or drawing and ask "What food is it?" and elicit an appropriate response. Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words. You can liven up the activity by saying the Key Word aloud, and students have to either point to the photo in the book or race to the front of the room to touch the picture or drawing.
