Exercise 1

· Ask a more proficient student "Do you think that being a firefighter is very dangerous, quite dangerous, dangerous, a little bit dangerous, not very dangerous, or not dangerous at all?" If necessary, write these on the board under a scale to confirm comprehension. Elicit an appropriate response. You may skip this step if you feel students are ready to do the exercise.
· Read the activities aloud, or have a student read them. To confirm comprehension, have students match phrase e with the last photo, phrase b with the second photo and phrase f with the first photo. Then you may mime the other actions, or have students mime them, to confirm comprehension. Then have students get into pairs. Say " Now rate the activities from very dangerous (6) to not dangerous (1)". Monitor as students rate the activities, offering assistance as needed.
· Come together as a class and have students share their opinions. Challenge students to explain why they hold their opinions.
