• Use of infinitives
·Talking about Yao Ming and what he did to achieve his goals
Exercise 5
Purpose: to help students discuss what Yao Ming's greatest achievement is
· Direct students to the last line of the text: "Yao Ming will always be thought of as one of the world's best sports stars…”
· Write on the board: I think Yao Ming's greatest achievement is _____ . He _____ .Have students make suggestions noting Yao Ming's achievements. Elicit an example, such as, "I think Yao Ming's greatest achievement is that he has won the hearts of people all a-round the world. He is hard-working and modest. "
· Give students a few moments to think of their own ideas. Then have them share their opinions with a partner. Monitor, offering help as needed.
· Go over their ideas, asking individual students to share their opinions with the class.

Exercise 6
Purpose: to help students complete a table involving the use of infinitives
Follow these steps to teach the use of infinifives
⭕Have students imagine that it is June 2002 and they are Yao Ming. Then say "You are in Houston and you are trying to talk to your teammates but you don't speak English very well. What do you decide to do?" Write the question on the board followed by the word "study". Below it, write "I decide..." Elicit answer, I decide to study English every night. Emphasise the use of infinitive with "to" in front of the basic form of the verb "study".
⭕Then write the words "I decide ..." and "practise" on the board. Again, ask the question " What do you decide to do?" Elicit the response and write it on the board; I decide to practise English with my teammates. Again, point out the use of infinitive (to practise) following the verb ( decide) in the statement.
