Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students know personal things
· Direct students to the photo. Say "Look at the photo. What room is it?" Elicit It's a bedroom. Say "Yes. It's Jenny's bedroom. What furniture can you see in her bedroom?" Elicit a bed, a table with a drawer, a lamp, a pillow. Ask "What other things can you see?" Elicit books, a pen, a notebook, a clock. Then say "Jenny's things are everywhere! Does your room look like Jenny's room?" Elicit yes or no. You may skip this step if you feel your students are ready to do the exercise.
· Direct students to the Key Words. Say "Repeat after me". Read the Key Words aloud, having students repeat after you. Ask " Which of these things can you see in Jenny's room?" Elicit a cap, and a shirt. Have photos of the other objects, ball, box, kite, model car, model plane, picture, shoes, socks, sweater, umbrella. Alternately, you may ask students to find pictures of some of the personal things in the Student Book. For example, ball is on page 8; box is on page 23; picture is on page 16; shoes are on page 22; socks are on page 24; etc. You may also use the Picture Dictionary on page 106, Personal things and Clothes, to teach the Key Words.
· Then ask " Which of these things do you have in your room?" Have students get into pairs to discuss which things they have in their rooms. Monitor as students talk about what they have in their rooms, offering assistance as needed. Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words. Have students form new pairs for more practice.
· Have a few students tell what they have in their rooms or what their partners have. Encourage students to answer in complete sentences using I have... or He / She has.. Make sure students use correct articles.
