Exercise 1

· Have the following school things, or pictures of them, on hand: chalk, DVD player, exercise book, pencil, plant, tape recorder, schoolbag, TV, watch, window. Spread them out on your desk or have them nearby. Hold up or point to one object or picture, for example, pencil, and say "What's this?" Elicit pencil. Say the word again and have students repeat. Point to the word in your book and say it". Monitor, making sure students are pointing to the correct word as they say it. Check students' pronunciation of the Key Words. If you feel your students are ready to do the exercise, you may skip these two steps.
· Direct students to the picture of the classroom in the book. Point to item 1, window, and ask "What's this?" Elicit window. Say " Now label the things in the pictures with the Key Words". Monitor as your students label the things in picture. If students need support, you may have them work in pairs.
