Reading activity
China is known as a state of etiquette and ceremony. We can see it through the ways people greet each other.
Chinese used to cup one hand over the other before the chest as a way to show respect. This tradition has a history of more than 2,000 years but nowadays is seldom used except in the Spring Festival. Shaking hands is now more popular and appropriate on formal occasions. Bowing is a sign of respect, but at present people tend to nod with a smile as a greeting. To some extent this reflects the ever-increasing pace of modern life.
