Reading
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students complete a table based on a text
· Ask“What kinds of things can you learn from discoveries?”Elicit some responses from your students. They may talk about experiments and scientific discoveries. Encourage them to“think outside the box” or to think in a different way. If necessary, directly ask about personal discoveries. Don't worry about fluency here; just let students share their thoughts. Direct students to the text. Say“Skim the text and find out which sort of ‘discovery’ Rich made”. When students have finished, ask the question again. Elicit or provide He made a personal discovery. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
