Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students identify times of the day with times on a clock
· Draw the following images on the board: the sun rising behind a hill (morning); the sun up in the sky (afternoon) ; the sun setting behind the hill (evening); the moon and stars (night). Ask“Which is morning?” Students should identify the first image. Write morning under the image. Then ask“Which is evening?”Continue with the images, making sure students understand. Revise the pronunciation of the Key Words.
· Show a large clock with hands you can move. Set the clock to 10:00 and write 10:00 on the board. Ask“Is it morning, afternoon, evening, or night?”Elicit morning. Erase 10:00 and write 22:00. Ask the question again. Elicit night.
· Direct students to the times and Key Words. Say“Now look and match the time with the Key Words”. Monitor as students complete the activity, offering assistance when needed.
· Go over the answers, encouraging students to answer in complete sentences, for example, It's morning / afternoon / evening / night.

Expansion: Show What You Know!
Note: Use this activity with more proficient students. Show more times using the clock. Challenge students with times such as 5: 15, 3:45, 2:10, 9:02. Encourage them to use expressions such as“A quarter past / after / to”“noon”and“midnight”. Ask students to identify the time and the time of day. Have student volunteers come to the front of the class to show a time on the clock, and have the other students say the time and time of day.
