A girl who has a gift for drawing
I went to an exhibition last month, ①where I admired a lot of wonderful paintings. Mary, ②whose drawings were shown at the exhibition, is a model student ③who/that is often praised for her good work at school. As soon as we got into the exhibition hall, ④where the paintings were on show, our eyes were caught by a very large picture, ⑤which was hung on the wall in front of us. The horse ⑥that/which was drawn in the picture was exactly like a real horse. The man, ⑦who was riding on it, looked like a living man. It was the best picture ⑧that I had ever seen and it had taken Mary thousands of hours to learn and practise drawing before she succeeded.

一、非限制性定语从句的特点
[先感知]
①(教材典句)I walk through the doors into the waiting area, where there's a familiar atmosphere of boredom and tension.
②(教材典句)Scientific studies show that laughter produces chemicals to make people feel better, which means clown doctors can be helpful.
[会发现]
①句中where引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是the waiting area。
②句中which引导非限制性定语从句,先行词是整个主句内容。
[明规则]
1.非限制性定语从句与先行词之间一般用逗号隔开, 是对先行词加以描述、解释或补充说明。如果去掉它,句子剩余部分的意思仍然完整。
2.非限制性定语从句的先行词既可为单个的名词或代词,也可为整个句子或其中一部分,且常译成与主句并列的句子。
