Lesson Focus
·Make a writing outline by understanding the structure of the template.
·Write a letter to a favorite astronaut based on the writing exercise.
Reading
Exercise 1
Purpose: to help students understand the content of a text and answer questions listed here
· Read and understand the sample text. Direct students to the photo and title. Ask“Do you know who this is?”Elicit or provide Liu Yang, the first Chinese female astronaut. If you feel your students are ready to do the exercise, you may skip this step.
· Say“Look at the text. What kind of text is it?”If necessary, direct students to the salutation (Dear Liu Yang) , the closing (Yours faithfully) and the signature. Elicit It's a letter. Ask“Who is the letter to?”Elicit Lin Yang. Ask“Who is the letter from?”Elicit Angela Liu.
· Direct students to the questions. Read them aloud, or have a student read them. Say“Read Angela's letter and answer the questions”. Monitor, offering help as needed. Make sure students understand the subjects physics and chemistry.
· Go over the answers, first having students compare their answers with each other. Then ask individual students to say the answers aloud. Encourage students to answer in complete sentences.
