北美豪猪的温彻斯特之旅
A
North
American
porcupine(豪猪)
stays
in
the
stairwel
of
a
garage(汽车修理厂)
in
Winchester,
Virginia.
The
animal
is
sick,
weak,
and
a
patch
of
quils(棘刺)
on
his
back
is
missing.
Far
from
his
forest
home,
the
sick
porcupine
must
have
got
into
the
building
in
search
of
safety.
Finaly,
a
worker
happens
to
see
the
little
animal
and
quickly
cals
the
police.
Researchers
put
the
porcupine
in
his
own
room
at
the
wildlife
centre.
Porcupines
are
active
during
the
night,
so
the
researchers
dont
want
to
disturb(打扰)
his
rest
during
the
day.
His
room
is
filed
with
something
soft
and
comfortable.
Each
day,
the
workers
mix
a
little
cherry-flavoured(樱桃味的)
medicine
into
a
few
teaspoons
of
baby
food
made
of
pumpkin,
apples
or
squash.
At
first,
the
porcupine
sits
in
the
corner.
A
But
as
the
medicine
starts
to
work,
he
begins
eating
normal
food
for
porcupines:
leaves
and
branches
that
the
workers
pick
from
oak
and
maple
trees
behind
the
centre.
B
“Each
evening
wed
fil
his
whole
room
with
twigs
and
branches—you
could
hardly
see
him!”
Riley
says.
C
“Then
the
next
morning,
theyd
be
eaten
up
and
wed
have
to
go
out
and
do
it
again.”
D
After
10
days,
the
caretakers
can
see
that
the
porcupine
is
breathing
more
easily
and
moving
around
his
room.
His
eyes
are
bright
and
careful.
Its
time
to
let
him
.
The
team
carries
the
porcupine
in
a
pet
carrier
to
the
forest.
As
soon
as
they
open
the
door,
the
animal
climbs
straight
up
a
tree.
