Exercise 8
Purpose: to help students choose the correct meaning of sentences
· Direct students to the pairs of sentences. Explain that one sentence will show result and one will show purpose. Ask“Which do we use to show result and which to show purpose: so that or so ... that?”Elicit We use so that to show purpose and so ... that to show result. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Say“Choose the correct meaning of the sentences”. Monitor, offering help as needed.
· Go over the answers, asking individual students to say them aloud.

Exercise 9
Purpose: to help students rewrite sentences using so ... that or so that
· Remind students that so that shows a purpose and so ... that shows a result. You may also elicit this information from students. If you feel your students are ready, you may skip this step.
· Direct students to the sentences. Say“Re-write the sentences using so ... that or so that”. Give them the hint that they may need to switch the clauses in some of the sentences. Monitor, offering help as needed. If students need support, have them work in pairs.

Exercise 10
Purpose: to help students role-play an interview
· Have students count off by twos. Say “All the ‘ones’ will be role-playing Dr Sherman. All the "twos' will be an interviewer, asking her questions”Direct students to the reading. Have the“Dr Shermans” meet. Say“Make some notes about what Dr Sherman says in the reading”. Then have the other students meet, in one group. Say“Now think of questions to ask Dr Sherman”. Monitor, offering help as needed.
