(2022秋·福建厦门·九年级厦门双十中学校考期中)It’s said that there are many kinds of traditions around the world when a child’s tooth falls out. In western countries like the US, one of the most popular is leaving a tooth under a pillow(枕头) for the Tooth Fairy(仙子). Here are three other interesting tooth traditions for you to know.
Toss(扔) the Tooth in the Air
Many children in the Middle East don’t leave their teeth for a fairy. Instead, they go outside and toss their teeth up in the air, aiming for the sun. It’s said to be helpful for the growth of new teeth. They may also be much stronger than before.
Toss the Tooth on the Roof(屋顶)
In India, kids will toss the bottom teeth on the roof. However, the upper ones are placed somewhere low, such as under the bed. The teeth are hoped to be taken by a bird or a mouse. This is believed to make sure that new ones grow as fast as possible.
Hide That Tooth
In Nepal, if a bird steals your baby teeth, it’s considered bad luck. So children will hide their teeth in secret places. Kids in Malaysia bury(埋) their teeth in the ground too. It’s seen as returning the tooth back to nature. In Turkey, children also hide the teeth. Burying a tooth near a hospital is believed to help a child become a doctor. Soccer fields are popular, because everyone wants to be a good player!
