【What】Reading and Thinking板块的活动主题是“交流对智能家居的看法”（Exchange views on smart homes）。文章从现实生活中常遇到的问题出发，介绍了未来生活场景中智能家居具有的智能控制、健康检查、防范灾害等功能。学生通过阅读这篇介绍未来智能家居的说明文，了解技术发展给生活带来的便利，并思考这些变化可能产生的问题。在有关科技和未来的主题语境下，从居家生活切入话题可以让学生感觉到未来科技发展与生活息息相关，从而拉近话题与学生的距离，激发学生的阅读兴趣。

【How】本文是一篇科技类科普说明文（杂志类型）。文章结构采用“总-分-总”的方式，全文五个段落呈现了说明类文本常见的BTEC的内容结构：第一段介绍了背景（Background）和主题（Topic），即在目前家居生活不够安全和节能等背景下，提出未来智能家居可以给我们提供更安全、更节能和更舒适的生活这一主题；第二至第四段用“智能控制、健康检查和防范灾害”三种功能解释了文本主题（Explanation）；第五段是总结（Conclusion），智能家居时代已经到来，尽管其推广普及还需要一段时间，作者对未来家居生活的智能化充满信心。文章的开头通过提问导人话题，给人一种亲切、真实的感觉。行文中不断描述问题场景，使用举例、比较等典型的说明方式，生动、形象地介绍智能家居发展的现状和未来可期的情景，有很强的代入感和可读性。

Have you ever forgotten to lock the door of your house? Or, have you ever forgotten to switch off the TV or computer?（ 你曾经忘记锁门吗？或者，你曾经忘记关掉电视或电脑吗？）These kinds of things happen to us all the time, waste resources, and can sometimes lead to problems. （这种事情经常发生在我们身上，浪费资源，有时还会导致问题）However, in the not-too-distant future, we will be living in smart homes that will lock the door for us when we are away and remember to switch off the TV when we forget. （然而，在不远的将来，我们将生活在智能住宅中。当我们外出时，智能家居会为我们锁门；当我们忘记关电视时，智能家居会记得关掉它）These smart homes will keep us secure, save us energy, and provide a more comfortable environment to live in.（这些智能住宅将使我们安全，节省能源，并提供一个更舒适的居住环境。）

Should We Advocate Artificial Intelligence?

    Nowadays, with the development of technology, artificial intelligence is becoming more and more popular. It is universally acknowledged that AI plays an important role in our daily lives.

    On the one hand, with robots undertaking dangerous and demanding jobs and facial recognition coming into being, AI makes our lives much more convenient and safer. On the other hand, with AI taking the place of people in some industries, it will be more difficult for people to get jobs to make a living.
