Teaching procedures Step 1 Lead-in Show a picture of a bedroom and let students guess who the owner is. Ask Ss to revise the previously learned conversations and fill in the blanks. Step 2 Presentation Show grammar focus to all of the Ss and ask students to find some clues. 语法展示：表示推测的情态动词 定义：在英语中，表示对某件事物的确定程度，即表示推测的时候，表示可能、怀疑、允诺、愿望、义务、必要、猜测等的动词就是情态动词。英语中表示推测的情态动词主要有 must, can, could, may, might等。 具体用法： 1) 情态动词表示推测时，无时态区别，只有语气差别 must > can/could > may/might 2) must表示可能性最大的肯定推测，意思是“一定、准是”。含有must的句子（表推测）变为否定句时，要用can’t。 must一般疑问句的否定回答用needn’t或don’t have to，而不用mustn’t。 mustn’t意为“不可以，不能”，表示禁止，不许可 He must know the answers. /He can’t know the answers. must还可表示有把握的推测，意为“一定、肯定”。must的过去式还是must。在回答以must开头的一般疑问句时，否定式需用needn’t，表示“不必”的意思。 3) can可表示能力/允许/可能性/怀疑猜测，意为“可以，会，能”；can’t意为“不会，不能，不可以，不可能”。could为can的过去式；could还可用于现在时态中表示委婉客气，相当于can；could也可表示惊讶怀疑，不相信。 could 表示某事有可能发生或可能是事实。 Don’t eat it.
