Longman Welcome to English Gold 6A-Chapter 6
A.Monopoly game (Who'and 'where')
Aim:
To reinforce the correct use of relative clauses with 'who'and 'where'
Description of the game:
Pupils look at the pictures on the game sheet and the words on the word cards and make sentences
using relative clauses with 'who'and 'where'.
You will need:
1.Enough copies of the word cards (who'cards and 'where'cards)for each group of 3-4 pupils in
the class
2.Enough copies of the game sheet for each group
3.A dice for each group
Steps:
1.Cut out the word cards along the dotted lines.
2.Divide the class into small groups of 3-4 pupils.Give each group a set of word cards,a game sheet
and a dice.Pupils use their own erasers as counters.
3.Pupils place the word cards in two piles-'who'and 'where',face down on the game sheet.
4.Pupils take tums to throw the dice. The number tells them how far they may move their counters.
5.Pupils should take a word card if their counters land on a square with a picture in it-if the picture
is a place, they should draw a card from the pile marked 'where';if the picture is a person, they
should draw a card from the pile marked 'who'.
6.If the picture in the square and the words on the card are compatible,e.g.'a park'(picture in the
square)/play badminton'(word cards),they should use the picture and words to make a sentence
using a relative clause with 'who'or 'where',e.g.This is the park where we play badminton. If the
picture in the square and the words on the card are not compatible, they should put the card back,
face down.
7.Pupils can keep the card if they make a correct sentence. They have to put it back if they can't make
a correct sentence.
8.Continue the game until there are no cards left. The pupil with the most cards at the end of the game
wins.
