This makes them valuable farm animals, as they can remain alive even in the poor environment of the mountains. Llamas live for about 20 years. A grown­up llama weighs about 200 kg. Llamas are very sociable and enjoy spending time with other animals of the same family. They are clever and friendly, but they can be very shy in new situations. Although they don't hurt others, llamas have an unusual way of protecting themselves: they spit (喷吐)! When they think they're in danger, they spit out a mixture of grass and saliva (口水) as a warning.
