It has a history of more than 2，000 years. It has deeply influenced Chinese people's life and now the influence has expanded to many other different countries, like the UK and the USA. There are many traditional customs like making and eating zongzi. Zongzi are little pyramid­shaped snacks wrapped in bamboo leaves.They are a traditional food made from delicious rice filled with meat, eggs or nuts. When eating zongzi people will think of a great person—Qu Yuan. As the government official of the State of Chu in the Warring States period, he jumped into the Miluo River when his own country was occupied by the State of Qin. Ancient people threw rice into the river. By doing so，ancient people believed the fish would eat the rice instead of Qu's body. This is traditionally the origin of zongzi as the food during the festival. Besides eating zongzi，Chinese families，especially those living in the south and near water，usually go to watch dragon boat races. Dragon boat racing is an activity that needs teamwork. It also has a strong connection with local water culture. Those customs are rooted in the culture of the Chinese people. They have been listed as the intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) of China.
