Lesson Design 课题 Topic Unit 8 Lesson 1 Roots and Shoots 课型 Subject Reading 课时 Lesson Period 1 教学目标 Teaching Goals Students will be able to 1. grasp the basic information and analyze its structures using skimming and scanning skills. 2. work out the inferential meaning of the text involving Dr. Jane Goodall’s personal quality, the structure and development of the text, and the meaning of “Roots and Shoots”. 3. identify the grammatical terms of the -ed and -ing form and master their usage. 4. think about the specific measures to protect the environment and construct their opinions. 教学重点 Teaching Focus 1. Use the title and key words to get the main idea of the text. 2. Help students be clear about what “roots”, “shoots” and “just-me-ism” are. 教学难点 Difficulties in the Teaching 1. Identify the structure of the text and the inherent relationship of each part. 2. Elevate the critical thinking and cross-cultural competence. 学习能力 Learning competence Reading strategies: Reading for gist and details: 1. Make sure students know what they have to do, e.g. analyzing the structure, summarizing the main idea and filling in the blanks. 2. As students read, tell them underline the key words and phrases, especially the topic sentence of each paragraph. 3. Use some words, expressions and sentences from the text to help students answer some questions, e.g. millions of pieces of litter would be dropped.
