A Teaching plan for 7A Unit8 Reading _Unusual Collection I. Analysis of the teaching material This is the first period of Unit 8 (Unusual Collection). The topic is interesting, therefore, most of the students are attracted. Through learning the reading material, on one hand, students have accumulated some knowledge about collecting things by skimming and scanning, which will be drilled in class. One the other hand, students are encouraged to appreciate the precious things in life, to form a positive attitude to their hobbies and to improve their cooperative ability. What’s more, students are involved to observe what the personal pronouns refer to in the content. II. Analysis of the students Most of the students are of intermediate level. They have relevant vocabulary but can’t read fast. 30% are of upper intermediate level. They have large vocabulary and can use reading skills freely. 10% are lower intermediate level. They are short of vocabulary and they can’t use reading skills automatically. Though most of the students in Grade 7 are active in class, their thoughts lack logic, so they need to be guided by more skills. Some of them are too shy to express themselves in English or are afraid of making mistakes, so they can be encouraged to present by imitating. Through the way of imitating, many of the students are becoming more and more active, and they are more interested in learning English. III. Teaching goals · Help the students to learn some target new words that may make them have trouble in understanding the passage. · Cultivate their critical thinking ability by discussing the grandparents’ attitude, meanwhile develop their reading skills (skimming & scanning); · Guide students to do a survey on what the people around them collect and then make a report by imitating.
