36 expats(外籍人士)in Shenzhen took part in a blood donation(献血)activity at the Huaqiangbei blood donation center yesterday, with 28 of them donating 10,300 ml of blood.
The activity was first hosted by three Indian families. Most group members are from India and Nepal.
Varun, an Indian, came to Shenzhen five years ago. His wife Pooja also helped organize(组织)the activity. “We started it a year ago. We want everyone to be part of it. It doesn’t matter which country they come from. It’s all about how to give back to the city,” Pooja said.
The number of the people in their group is becoming larger. Their first group blood donation activity had about 15 people. Most of them were their friends. The second time they had about 35 people. As we do this more and more often, more people from different countries come and join us,” Varun added.
For Nepalese, who came to Shenzhen in 2008, it was not the first time that he donated blood in China. “I think every one of us should donate blood if we are able to do so. Blood donation is good not only because it can save lives, but it is also good for our health.”
Lan Yuxiao, leader of Shenzhen Blood Center, says that this group blood donation activity is always well-organized. In fact, many expats have taken part in blood donation in Shenzhen. “They may see Shenzhen as their second home, so they would like to donate blood and take part in other activities like this for the city,” Lan said.
