教学目标
By the end of this lesson,students are able to:
1. Know the structure of the past perfect tense;
2. Know the usage of this tense;
3. Know how to solve the problems of past perfect.
教学重难点
Important point:the structure and the usage of past perfect.
Difficult point:how to use this tense to solve the problems.
教学过程
Step 1.Lead in:a guessing game
Ask two students to compete with each other,pick out the sentences which are used past perfect. Then ask students to conclude the structure of past perfect.
肯定式:had done
否定式:had not done
Step 2.the usage of the tense
Give students two sentences of each usage,then students get the points together.
①Before we got to the train station, the train had already left.
我们到达火车站之前,火车就已经离开了。
②Before I could say “thank you”, he had run away.
我还没来得及说谢谢,他就跑开了。
Conclusion:表示在过去的某一时间或某一动作之前完成的动作或存在的状态。
① By the end of last term, we had learnt 2,000 English words.
到上学期期末为止,我们已经学习了2,000个英语单词了。
②They had lived there for ten years by then.
到那时为止,他们已经在那里住了10年了。
Conclusion: 表示从过去某一时间开始,一直延续到过去的另一个时间的动作,常用的时间状语有be then, by the end of, by the time.
Give students a timeline of past perfect to help understand the tense.
Step3. some fixed sentences pattern of this tense
①在“hardly...when/ no sooner...than/ scarcely...when”句型中,主句用过去完成时,从句用一般过去时。
Eg. I had no sooner reached home than it began to rain. =No sooner had I reached home than it began to rain.
我刚到家就开始下雨了。(注意:部分倒装)
②It was+一段时间+since从句(从句用过去完成时)
Eg.It was at least three months since I had left Beijing.
我离开北京至少有3个月了。
③It was the first/second/...time+(that)从句(从句用过去完成时)
Eg.It was the first time that I had chatted online in English.
那是我第一次用英语在网上聊天。
Step4:give students a learning tip
正确运用过去完成时的关键是要正确理解“过去的过去”。“过去的过去”是一个相对的时间,即它是相对于一个过去的时间而言的。这种相对的“过去的过去”有时通过时间状语体现出来,有时则可能是通过上下文来体现。结合题干中的语境来判断两个过去的动作发生的先后顺序,较早发生的那个动作用过去完成时。
