If you look around your city, you might notice girls wearing hanfu in subways or people wearing T-shirts with Chinese characters on the streets. A new trend(潮流)is appearing in China-Guochao, or “China-chic”. But what is it?
The word China-chic shows the rise of China’s native fashion trends. It has enlarged the meaning of “Made in China”, which has been known as the representation(代表)of Chinese culture and beauty from homegrown Chinese brands(品牌).
China-chic caught people’s attention in 2018. Before that, big-name foreign companies like Nike and Adidas dominated(主导)the world market. But that year, Chinese sportswear brand Li-Ning changed the situation. During the 2018 New York Fashion Week, Li-Ning introduced its special style -Taoism-inspired Wu Dao collection. The collection not only had a fashionable look, but also included elements(元素)of traditional Chinese culture. It caught great attention both at home and abroad at once. It helped Li-Ning won a lot in the market. Since then, homegrown brands have spread quickly, from food and drinks to clothing, mobile phones and electric vehicles, such as White Rabbit. Wanglaoji, and so on.
Now, the success of Guochao trend tells the world that China has its own cultural confidence. No matter how the Guochao trend develops, there’s one thing that won’t change: Behind the craze(狂热)people’s active attitude toward the country’s development and their growing confidence in national culture.
