定语从句中关系词的省略 在非限制性定语从句中,关系词不可省略;限制性定语从句中关系词的省略有以下6种: 1.关系代词作宾语时的省略:当关系代词who, whom, which和that在定语从句中用作动词宾语或介词位于句末的介词宾语时,可以省略。 Who is the man (that / who / whom )you were talking to? 关系词的省略 2.关系代词作表语时的省略:当关系代词that在定语从句中用作表语时,可以省略。 China is not the country( that )it was. 3.关系副词when的省略:用作时间状语的关系副词when通常不能省略,但在the time, every time, each time, the moment ,day, year, time等少数几个词后可以省略(有时可换成that)。 By the time (when) he was fourteen years old, Einstein had learnt advanced mathematics all by himself. I’ll never forget the day( that/when )we met. 关系词的省略 4.关系副词where的省略:关系副词where通常不能省略,但用于place, somewhere, anywhere, everywhere, nowhere少数几个词后时可以省略,也可换成that。 This is the place (where/ that ) they met yesterday. 5 .关系副词why的省略:关系副词why通常只用于the reason后引导定语从句,且通常可换成that或for which,均可省略。That's the reason (why, for which, that) he came. 关系词的省略 6.当先行词是way时,关系副词常常省略。 What surprised me was not what he said but _ he said it. A. the way B. in the way that C. in the way D. the way which 解析:根据句意该用the way,所以在A和D中选择。然后考查the way后接定语从句的用法,具体用法有三种:(1)用in which引导;(2)用that引导;(3)省略关系副词。此题属于第三种用法。 关系词的省略 注意:介词后不用who、that,介词后的关系代词不可省。 定语从句之 关系代词前介词的确定 如何选定介词: 1.根据从句中动词与先行词的逻辑关系,请体会: e.g. Is that the newspaper for which you often write articles? 2. 根据从句中动词或形容词的习惯搭配,如: e.g. Can you explain to me how to use these idioms about which I’m sure. 3. 根据先行词与介词的搭配习惯,请体会: e.g. 1949 was the year in which the P.R.C. was founded. 4.非限制性定语从句中,要表示先行词的一部分时,可用“数词/代词 + of + 关系代词”的结构,如: e.g. There are 50 students in our class, of whom 20 have been to Beijing. 5. Whose从句可转换为“ of +关系代词”型,如: e.g. They live in a house, whose door opens to the south. They lived in a house, of which the door opens to the south.
