They might read newspapers and magazines in that language, watch movies, listen to podcasts, or join chat rooms. All of these are great opportunities to practice and can also be fun. In addition, good language learners try different ways to make their message understood. For example, if they do not know the word for “laundromat,” they might say “the place where you can wash clothes.” ____37____ The point is that good language learners are creative and do not easily give up. Finally, good language learners are prepared to take risks. ____38____ As a result, instead of being embarrassed by a mistake or getting frustrated when they do not understand, they see it as gaining a learning opportunity. For example, if they do not understand what someone said the first time, they are not afraid to ask them to repeat it again and again until they do understand.
