Ⅰ.用括号内所给词的适当形式填写下面教材中的句子,并体会它们的语法特征。
1.(教材P2) As a young doctor, John Snow became frustrated (frustrate) because no one knew how to prevent or treat cholera.

3.句6中引导 表语从句 的连词有一定的含义,意为“ 为什么 ”。
在主从复合句中充当表语的从句称为表语从句。它常位于系动词之后,用来说明主语是什么或怎么样。
一、表语从句的引导词
(一)that引导表语从句时的用法:
1.无意义;2.不充当成分;3.不可省略。
►The trouble is that she has lost his address.
问题是她弄丢了他的地址。
►My suggestion is that we should tell him.
我的建议是我们应该告诉他。
(二)whether引导的表语从句
►The question remains whether they will be able to help us.
问题是他们能否帮助我们。
►The question is whether the composer will turn up in time.问题是这位作曲家是否会及时出现。

(三)连接代词引导的表语从句
连接代词what(ever), which(ever), who(ever), whom(ever), whose等引导表语从句时,本身有意义,除了在句中起连接作用外,还在从句中充当主语、宾语、表语、定语等成分。
►The problem is who should be responsible for the task.问题是谁应该为这项工作负责。
