Chinese food can be classified into six categories①:

2.Royal③ dishes.

5.Vegetarian food.
Because most monks eat vegetarian food,it is also known as “monastery dishes(斋饭)”.
6.Medicinal dishes,or food therapy⑦.
The Chinese believe that mixing tonics(补药)with food adds flavor to the food and is good for health.Famed medicinal dishes include “lily decoction with chicken(百合鸡汤)” and “porridge with lotus seeds and lily(莲子百合粥)”.
