Food waste is common in many schools. Students at Whitewater Middle School in the US once looked at 200 pounds (90.7 kg) of food, including pizzas and salads, which had been thrown away after just one of their school's daily meals. It was, they said, both disgusting (恶心的) and educational.
"You don't realize how much food waste you're making until you see it," said student Cody Gist.
To deal with this problem, Whitewater has added environmental science as a new school program this year. Teachers will lead students to do research on the ways in which food has something to do with the environment poverty (贫穷), and people's health.
