【口袋书】2021年高考英语必背手册 专题九 情态动词 考点一 情态动词的基本用法 情态动词本身有一定的词义，但需和其他动词一起构成谓语，除ought, used外，情态动词后面接动词原形。情态动词中have to可以用have got to 代替；need,dare也可用实意动词；used to 有两种否定形式：used not to和did not use to. 1.can和could的用法 ①表示具有某种能力，指有能力做某事，意为“能，会”。 By the age of seven he could write beautifully. 他七岁时就能写得很好了。 Samuel, the tallest boy in our class, can easily reach the books on the top shelf. Samuel是我们班最高的男孩，他能轻易地够着书架顶层的书。 It was several minutes before I could take in what he was saying. 过了好几分钟，我才理解他说的是什么。 ②表示推测，意为“可能”，用于否定句或疑问句中。can比could语气强。 That can’t be Mary—she is in London now. 那不可能是玛丽——现在她在伦敦。 ③表示请求和允许，和may相近；口语中可用could表示委婉语气，但回答时仍用can 表示礼貌地请求，意为“能，可以”。在疑问句中could可代替can, 语气更委婉。 Could I ask for your reaction to this policy? 请问您对这项政策有什么看法？ —Can you tell us your recipe for happiness and a long life? —你能告诉我们你的幸福和长寿的秘诀吗？ —Living every day to the full, definitely. —当然是过好每一天。 ④表示推测，常用于否定句和疑问句中 I think the work can be completed ahead of time. 我认为这项工作可能提前完成。 Mike can't have found his car, for he came to work by bus this morning. 迈克肯定还没有找到他的车，因为他今天早上是坐公共汽车来上班的。 I can't find my purse.
