The day was established in December of 2003. The United Nations General Assembly created this day to help bring awareness to all of the things we rely on mountains for, and to encourage the international community to organize events at all levels on the day to highlight the importance of mountain development. Every year there is a different theme for the day related to mountain development and awareness the theme for 2015 was: Promoting mountain products for better livelihoods". the aim of the day was to raise awareness of the challenges faced by mountain communities and the importance of improving the livelihoods of those living in mountain communities. Thankfully the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) is acting to help solve the problems faced by people living in these areas of the world. It will talk to locals and explain the developments of a strong ecosystem and how it will improve the people's well-being, water, environment, and overall livelihoods So do you think you would like to help?
