Unit 1　How can we become good learners? 第三课时　Section A (Grammar Focus—4c) 一、介词by的用法 1．by表示的意义 表示做某事的方式时，用介词by。by后常接动词的ing形式，表示“用……手段/方式”；其后也可接名词，表示“乘……(交通工具)”。by还可以表示时间，意为“在……之前；不迟于”。例如： He makes a living by selling vegetables. He went to Beijing by air last Friday. They will come back by 9 o’clock. 2．对by短语的提问 对由by引导的介词短语作方式状语提问时，用how。例如： —How do you study for a test? —By listening to tapes. 二、动名词的用法 1．动名词在句中作主语 动名词作主语时，谓语动词用第三人称单数形式。可以用it作形式主语，将动名词改成动词不定式，作真正主语。例如： Reading in the sun is bad for your eyes. ＝It is bad for your eyes to read in the sun. 2．动名词在句中作宾语 动名词在句中作宾语时，一般放在某一及物动词或介词之后充当这一动词或介词的宾语。后跟动名词作宾语的动词或动词短语有： finish，enjoy，keep，suggest，consider，practice，mind，avoid；can't help，give up，be busy，be worth，how about，thanks for，feel like，be interested in，stop sb.from，be good at 等。例如： It's kind of hot.Do you mind opening the window?
