News1:
The WHO is now calling the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic
The World Health Organization says that the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, outbreak has reached the stage where it can be described as a pandemic.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, or WHO, made the declaration at a daily briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Wednesday.
"WHO has been assessing this outbreak around the clock and we are deeply concerned both by the alarming levels of spread and severity, and by the alarming levels of inaction," Tedros said.
"We have therefore made the assessment that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic."
